At Early Years PE, our goal is to lead the industry in delivering high-quality and engaging PE sessions specifically tailored for children aged 5 and under. We recognise the paramount importance of fostering healthy lifestyles among our young learners and enabling them to reach their full physical potential. We understand that Physical Development, as outlined in the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stages), often lacks the attention it deserves, leaving many practitioners and parents feeling ill-prepared to engage in sports-related activities.
This is where we step in. Early Years PE is founded on extensive experience with our teachers having a proven track record of success, our programme seamlessly integrates elements of the EYFS and is taught through imaginative, play-based approaches. We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing. (George Bernard Shaw)
Josh Candy - Founder of Early Years PE
I’m Josh Candy, the founder of Early Years PE, a program dedicated to providing high-quality physical education tailored specifically for nursery-aged children. With over 15 years of experience in coaching and teaching, I’ve devoted my career to helping children develop physically, mentally, and socially through engaging and purposeful activities.
I hold a degree in Secondary Physical Education, which has provided me with a strong foundation in understanding how children learn and grow through sport and physical activity. In addition, I’ve earned coaching badges in Football and Rugby, equipping me with the skills to deliver structured, effective, and engaging sessions.
My journey began with 3 years teaching in Primary and Secondary schools, where I built a comprehensive understanding of child development at different stages. For the last 8 years, I’ve worked full-time in nurseries, delivering PE sessions that blend the principles of the EYFS framework with foundational sports skills.
In April 2024, I launched Early Years PE because I believe the Early Years deserves a curriculum that recognizes its unique needs—a curriculum that fosters movement, confidence, and a love of physical activity from the very beginning.
On a personal level, I’m a husband and a dad to two wonderful girls who inspire my passion for creating opportunities for children to thrive. I bring this same dedication and care to every session I design, aiming to give all children the tools they need to grow into active, happy, and confident individuals.
Through Early Years PE, I hope to elevate the role of physical education in nurseries, offering programs in Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, and Athletics—all delivered in a fun, imaginative and age-appropriate way.
